
Technological breakthroughs are helping people with long term health conditions to look after themselves.
NHS West Midlands showcased the work being done in this area to an audience of over 200 delegates at Walsall Football Club.
Among the speakers was Ann Johnson who was diagnosed with early onset dementia about four years ago.
Using basic technology such as a dictaphone has helped her to remember daily tasks and maintain her quality of life.
She says: "I didn't know when I was first diagnosed that these things existed, I found them by accident. Using them has made my life easier.
One of the exhibitors was Tim Lloyd-Yeates who works for the charity Alive!. He demonstrated the potential benefit of using of iPads in residential care homes.
He said: "People can't believe their eyes when you sit next to an older person with this glass tablet and you bring it to life. Instantly people are captivated with it."
Ann Johnson said such technology is hugely beneficial for people with long term conditions. She added: "As long as people understand how to use it and are physically able to use it, it will make their lives totally different."
