Unions and campaigners from across the health sector have declared April 1 as "All Together for the NHS" day.

The day of protest involves health workers and service users getting together to lobby key MPs in their constituencies and campaigning to raise the profile of the issue through events all over the country.

Under the banner of "All Together for the NHS", unions and campaigning groups are coming together to call on the Government to think again.

They claim that the Health and Social Care Bill will change the NHS beyond recognition and effectively break up the health service.

The campaign is being coordinated by False Economy, which seeks to represent everyone concerned about the impact of public spending cuts.

False Economy has detailed events taking place around the country on April 1, including those in Stafford, Warwickshire, Wolverhampton and Stourbridge in Dudley.

A spokesman for the campaign said: "The government is imposing huge changes on the NHS. These plans, set out in the Health and Social Care Bill currently going through Parliament, will change our National Health Service beyond recognition.

"The speed and scale of these changes is massive. They will mean big cuts in health spending and patients and staff will be the losers."

The spokesman said the cost of the reorganisation could be up to £3b while, at the same time, the government was demanding £20b in "efficiency savings" which, he claimed, only ministers believe can be achieved without affecting patients.

False Economy is urging people to ask their MP to vote against the Health and Social Care Bill and sign the online petitions being run by campaign groups 38 Degrees and Save Our NHS.

The events in Stafford, Stourbridge and Warwickshire involve lobbying local MPs Jeremy Lefroy, Margot James and Dan Byles (North Warwickshire & Bedworth) respectively, while Wolverhampton Bilston and District Trades Council has organised an armchair campaign of virtual action to lobby MPs, sign petitions, tweet and Facebook.
