Princess of Wales Women's Unit at Heartlands Hospital, east Birmingham

The midwife-led unit provides a wide range of services to complement the modern delivery suite, including full water birth facilities, antenatal assessment facilities and a neonatal unit, which offers the whole range of medical neonatal care.

The unit, which believes in offering women choice, aims to maintain the balance between midwife-led care and the involvement of obstetric specialists. A midwife is the lead professional for low-risk mums-to-be, with high-risk pregnancies put under the care of a consultant obstetrician, but shared by the hospital-based midwife team and GP.
