I am exploring new ways for NHS Local site users to make sense of NHS-focused news and information. Over the next few weeks I will be producing visuals that aim to provide new and interesting ways of seeing what is happening within the NHS. Here is a word cloud, kindly permitted by Infomous. Reducing barriers to participation in consultation events

Traditional NHS consultations have too many barriers stopping people from taking part. The the timing of appointments and location can be a problem. The formality can be an issue for others.  Acessibility can be a blocker too. Many forms of consultation put up barrier inadvertently through an excessive control of the flow of communication - things like closed, invite-only events, offline surveys, email forms, PDF forms and so on. We have recently used a number of tools to reduce the barriers and increase participation:

NHS local collaborative hack session

NHS local are hosting a mini hack session (web/mobile app development session) involving young people and Dudley anti smoking team on the 27th January at Maverick TV headquarters. We'll explore the themes and ideas from an earlier Praxis Arts and Health workshop I facilitated at Staffs university. During the hack session we will work with the young people and a small number of web developers and will look at sketching out a new web/mobile app or game.
